Kate Reynolds

“I would absolutely recommend the TEFL course at BridgeTEFL. The course, while intensive, has been challenging, encouraging, helpful and always interesting. I have learned more in this past month than I could have ever expected. A fantastic experience overall!”

Frank Gallivan
"BridgeTEFL’s course is as thorough (and intensive!) as I could have hoped. From having just a few narrow ideas about the teaching profession, I have progressed to a well-rounded knowledge of methods and theory. Practice teaching was challenging, but invaluable. I now have the confidence to deal with students in a variety of situations. I would recommend the TEFL course to anyone interested in teaching EFL."

Charyl Roper
“If you are serious about a career as an ESL teacher, BridgeTEFL is the way to go. Their TEFL course offers serious training in teaching techniques and methodologies. The best part is you get a chance to practice with real students to get hands-on experience.”

The BridgeTEFL certificate is an intensive four-week, 140-hour course that prepares you to teach English anywhere in the world. As a BridgeTEFL trainee, you’ll benefit from our decades of experience training teachers and students. Program graduates will finish the course with a better understanding of the English language, practical experience with a variety of teaching techniques, and confidence in the classroom.

The BridgeTEFL training program includes teaching practice with real language learners, classroom observation of experienced teachers, and several written assignments. This comprehensive course is designed for candidates with no previous English teaching experience, but is also suitable for those who have some experience but no formal training in the TEFL field.

TEFL Course Goals
By the end of the TEFL course, trainees will:

  • Acquire essential subject knowledge about the English language.
• Develop a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners.
• Know how to lead a communicative, student-centered class.
• Feel prepared to teach using a variety of materials and techniques.

TEFL Course Content

  • At least 6 hours of practice teaching sessions with real language learners
• Live and video observations of professional language teachers
• Trainers who will guide you through the course, including observing your practice teaching
• Instruction and practice in teaching the four basic language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) and subskills (vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar)
• An introduction to classroom management, including such issues as error correction and giving instructions
• Instruction and practice in preparing formal classroom lessons
• An introduction to language awareness and instruction in how to teach grammar
• An introduction to using multimedia in the classroom, including such topics as DVDs, songs, and the Internet
• Instruction in the basics of teaching Business English and English for Young Learners
• A brief look into the fascinating world of intercultural relations and how culture can affect language acquisition.

TEFL Course Requirements

In order to meet the TEFL training and certification requirements, trainees must:

  • Attend the entire course.
• Complete a minimum of six hours of practice teaching.
• Observe experienced TEFL teachers for at least six hours.
• Maintain and submit a portfolio of all written assignments and materials related to practice teaching.

TEFL Course Assessment

There are no final tests in the TEFL program. Throughout the course, trainers assess trainees in two major components of their work:

  • Practice teaching and lesson planning
• Written assignments

During the program, each trainee will teach a minimum of six hours of classes with real language learners. These classes are observed both by trainers and fellow trainees; the trainers’ evaluations constitute part of the final grade. Trainees will also complete several graded written assignments, each normally being around 1000 words long.

Evaluation and Letter of Reference
Upon completion of the TEFL program, BridgeTEFL will issue you an evaluation letter outlining what was covered during the training and your overall performance in the course. You may include this with your resume for future employment references.

Admission Requirements
All applicants to the TEFL course must:

  • Be at least 20 years of age by course completion (18- and 19-year-olds accepted at the center’s discretion).
• Have a standard of education equivalent of that required for entry into higher education.
• Have competence in both spoken and written English, such that it permits them to follow the training with no problems. Non-native speakers must communicate in English with few or no mistakes, have a level of fluency
roughly equal to a score of 280 on the computer-based TOEFL, and have an oral interview with a member of the admissions staff before enrolling.
