St. Petersburg, Russia
Built by Czar Peter the Great in 1703, St. Petersburg sits on the Baltic Sea and is known throughout the world for producing significant works of art, dance, music, and literature. The city is actually built on hundreds of islands and linked by a network of canals and arched bridges with embankments reminiscent of Paris. The focal point of the city is the impressive Admiralty Building, where the three main avenues of the city converge.
Visitors to St. Petersburg will find plenty of culture, art, and history in the Hermitage Museum, one of the oldest and largest museums in the world. You can also enjoy the numerous parks and gardens throughout the city, and a shopping trip down Nevsky Prospekt, the city’s main thoroughfare, will make you feel like a local! No visit to Russia is complete without a night at the ballet, and the famous Mariinsky Ballet in St. Petersburg has produced such world renowned dancers as Mikhail Baryshnikov and Anna Pavlova.
| Teaching English in Russia |
 |
Qualified English teachers can find a number of work opportunities in Russia. Business English is in particularly high demand, especially in the booming industries of oil, tourism, and services outsourcing. Private English language schools abound in Russia, due in part to the inadequacies of the state education system. Most of the schools employ a mix of local and native-speaker teachers, and demand for the latter is high especially in the winter months when many visiting teachers return home. |

| The TEFL course was very well timetabled as help and support were constantly available from experienced teachers. I have taught at the TEFL school since September 2008. I now teach a variety of levels and enjoy the classes a lot. The school is flexible and accommodating and the office staff always does their best when they allocate new groups to teachers. The office sorts out all visa issues and helps with any other official documentation, which foreigners need in Russia. The office staff are very friendly and there is always someone who speaks good English to help those of us whose Russian is not the best! I would recommend the school to any teacher looking to experience teaching English in Russia. |
