TEFL Training Center
The TEFL training center in La Antigua is located only two short blocks from La Antigua’s central plaza. Situated in a 17th century colonial building, the TEFL training center has been recently remodeled and is fully equipped with first-rate classrooms and amenities including building-wide Wi-Fi, a computer lab, snack bar, and 24-hour support from the friendly and welcoming staff.
Accommodations are a short taxi ride or a 15-25 minute walk from the training center. TEFL trainees will find an abundance of excellent restaurants in the area, offering everything from traditional Guatemalan food, to Mexican food, to international fare. TEFL trainees can also take advantage of the other services offered at the training center, including Spanish classes with a native speaker, volunteer opportunities, and excursions.
La Antigua, Guatemala
As the gateway between Mexico and Central America, Guatemala is a portal to another world. The lush countryside is dotted with timeless architecture, cobblestone streets, archeological ruins, and impressive volcanoes. Guatemala was home to the classic Mayan civilization, and the remains of this powerful empire can be seen throughout the country. TEFL trainees based in La Antigua will have plenty of opportunities to explore the best of Guatemala, from the beautiful Lake Atitlan, to the Mayan ruins of Tikal, to the relaxing beaches of the Pacific coast.
La Antigua is located in the central highlands of Guatemala at an elevation of 5,000 feet above sea level. Characterized by Spanish colonial architecture and surrounded by volcanoes, La Antigua is considered Guatemala’s most popular tourist destination. The central plaza is located in the heart of the city, and its tree-lined park offers plenty of benches and pleasant places for watching the constant bustle of locals and international visitors. TEFL trainees will enjoy exploring La Antigua’s shops, boutiques, and handicraft markets during their free time. The city also offers a lively nightlife, and traditional or modern music can be enjoyed in numerous bars and cafes.

The demand for learning English is on the rise in Guatemala, as it creates opportunities for work in tourism, international business, or teaching. There are several English schools located in La Antigua, but Guatemala City offers the most opportunities for TEFL graduates with a number of English institutes and bilingual primary and secondary schools. As Guatemala is located very close to Mexico and Honduras, many TEFL graduates may elect to work in these countries after completing their TEFL certification course. |
