TEFL Training Center
The training center in Crete is situated in Hania, on the island’s northwestern coast. Hania is a beautiful old Cretan town with a population of around 60,000. The old town center is clustered around the 14th century Venetian harbor where much of the city’s life and light is to be found. The town is large enough to offer a cosmopolitan atmosphere, but small enough that it’s normally easy to get around on foot – whether from the school to your apartment or from the local bar to the nearest beach.
The training center offers wireless internet, air conditioning, and a trainee resource room equipped with computers. Students can relax during breaks on the center’s pleasant outdoor veranda.
Crete, Greece
The crown jewel of the Greek Islands, Crete is loved not only for its sandy beaches but also for its unique culture, warm hospitality, and fascinating history. Visitors to the island can enjoy the shopping and nightlife in its vibrant harbor cities or a relaxing day on the sun-drenched beaches along the coast. The ruins of Knossos provide an interesting glimpse into Crete’s 3,000-year-old Minoan civilization, while the rugged Samaria Gorge boasts some of Europe’s best natural scenery.
Hania is arguably Crete’s most exotic city, its narrow streets winding through Venetian buildings, restaurants, and hotels. While in Hania, you can shop the food stalls of the public market, visit the tranquil and shady public gardens, or take in views of the impressive Turkish mosque that dominates the harbor. Hania is also a great starting point for exploring the solitude and wilderness of Crete’s western interior.
| Teaching English in Greece |
 |
With over 6,000 language schools (including many in Crete itself), Greece has a massive demand for qualified native-speaking English teachers. In Crete there are literally hundreds of frontistiria, or private language schools, that the majority of Greek school children attend after school hours. Most private schools require teachers to have a university degree, but in some cases it is possible to find employment without one. |
| Hiring season in Greece is typically from August to October, and many English teachers choose to supplement their income by giving private lessons. |

| I enjoyed the Teaching Practice because it made me ready to face the real world. Instead of just observing, we really got out there and were able to apply our methods in the classroom, plus the opportunity to teach at various levels. |
