CELTA Training Center
The CELTA training center is located in the heart of Bogotá's historical district La Candelaria. The school building is famous because five former Columbian presidents used it to dress and prepare for official ceremonies. The building houses 12 spacious classrooms and a study lounge with computers for student use.
The historical Plaza de Bolivar is just a few blocks away from the school, along with cobblestone streets and ornate government buildings, so students will have plenty to do and see within walking distance. The CELTA training center in Bogotá also offers English classes to the local community, so trainees will have the opportunity to meet and interact with Colombian students.
Bogotá, Colombia
According to the city's motto, Bogotá sits "2600 meters [over 8,000 feet] closer to the stars." Home to almost 8 million inhabitants, Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and the center of business and culture in the country. Exhibiting both sleek high rises and quaint Spanish colonial plazas, Bogotá is an interesting mixture of old and new. CELTA students will find everything from traditional Colombian dishes, to sushi, to fast food, as well as upscale shopping centers and traditional markets.
There is a lot to do and see in Bogotá. CELTA trainees can visit the Gold Museum to see a unique collection of pre-Columbian art, or ride a funicular up Cerro Monserrate and take in beautiful, panoramic views of the city. Bogotá also has South America's largest network of bike paths, and on Sundays and holidays many roads in the city are closed for biking, running, and inline skating.
Teaching
English in Colombia
Native English speakers in Colombia are scarce, meaning that CELTA graduates are in high demand. ESL jobs are especially plentiful in Colombia's major cities, such as Bogotá, Medellin, and Cali, where language institutes and universities seek native speakers and pay reasonable salaries. ESL teachers can also find work in private bilingual high schools throughout the country.
The cost of living in Colombia is relatively low, meaning that English teachers can live a modest lifestyle while enjoying life in beautiful Colombia!
