TEFL Training Center
 |
Located in a Caribbean-style
campus only six blocks from white sandy beaches,
our TEFL training center in Playa del Carmen has
an idyllic setting that's hard to beat. The open
architecture and lush gardens on campus create a
relaxed and inviting atmosphere conducive to intensive
learning. |
|
|
Founded in 1990, the center provides plenty of modern facilities
including a conference room, library, outdoor snack bar,
and access to computers and the Internet. And in the true
tradition of the tropics, the campus offers its students
air-conditioned indoor classrooms as well as thatched-roof
learning areas in the beautiful outdoors.
Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Located on Mexico’s Mayan Riviera about 35 minutes
from Cancun, Playa del Carmen offers everything you might
expect in a Caribbean location. The powdery white beaches
and transparent waters are unmatched in beauty, while
the town’s many bars and discos will keep you up
until dawn. And then there is the atmosphere: a tropical,
sun-kissed climate and laid-back attitude that keeps tourists
flocking to this small community from all over the world.
Despite its small size, Playa del Carmen offers all
the conveniences of a modern international tourist destination:
two shopping malls, cultural and recreation centers,
golf courses, and restaurants offering both traditional
and international cuisine. Another “Playa”
claim to fame—and one that sets it apart from
other Caribbean locales—is its proximity to significant
Mayan archeological sites. Tulúm, Cobá,
and the famous Chichén Itzá are all a
day-trip or less away from the city.
Teaching English
in Mexico
 |
 |
Most teaching jobs
in Mexico are found in the booming capital of
Mexico City—or in the nearby city of Guadalajara—where businesses, universities and public schools
create a growing need for certified TEFL teachers.
Positions are also readily available in the coastal
cities of Veracruz and Merida, and some can be
found in rural areas throughout the country. |
|
|
Language students in Mexico run the gamut from young children
learning English in school to adults studying for professional
or personal reasons. With the low cost of living in Mexico,
a TEFL teacher’s salary allows you to live a modest
but pleasant lifestyle. It is also possible to supplement
your income by teaching private EFL students, a lucrative
option that can allow you to save while living abroad.

Teaching in Huauchinango, Mexico

“To live and work in another culture was amazing. I traveled, studied and made friends in places I never knew existed. I learned a lot about who I was and what I wanted to become. It was beneficial to work in another country, because I was learning a foreign language and teaching a foreign language simultaneously. I could empathize with my students, while keeping them motivated with their practice.
My favorite thing about living in Huauchinango was having the ability to explore Mexico. That is something I will keep with me forever. My favorite thing about working in Huauchinango was watching my students progress linguistically in a town where no one spoke English. My students were very friendly and engaged, but at times they required a lot of discipline. The majority of my time in Huauchinango was spent teaching during the weekdays and traveling with my friends – local and fellow teachers - on the weekends.
If it had not been for BridgeTEFL’s certification course I would have never known about the job opportunity (or that this sentence is written in the third conditional). While I was taking the course in Playa del Carmen, Mexico my instructor told our class about the job openings. The university [where I taught classes] went directly to BridgeTEFL looking for potential teachers. Also, I take comfort in knowing that at any time I would like to teach abroad, I can call BridgeTEFL and be placed. I would absolutely recommend this experience to others.” |
