  Comments from CELTA Graduates

Adrian
Smith

“I have only the best possible things to say about the program. Thanks to my BridgeTEFL CELTA, I landed a very well-paying job with a Saudi Arabian university. My CELTA training provided me with incredible insights not only about teaching English but also my own teaching style. The BridgeTEFL placement staff assisted me tremendously to find a suitable position within a matter of days (hours actually!) of graduation.  I wholeheartedly recommend BridgeTEFL’s program to anyone seeking CELTA certification.”

Cherie
Abma

“I would recommend CELTA at BridgeTEFL because it’s a thorough program with great trainers who provide practical and insightful feedback. BridgeTEFL was very helpful with finding accommodations, setting up excursions, and providing information on Denver.”

The CELTA program is the most widely recognized TEFL certificate program in the world. Over the course of four weeks and 120 hours of work, candidates will become familiar with the principles of successful teaching and begin to develop
the skills they need to teach adult learners effectively. Upon course completion, you will be qualified to teach English in classrooms across the globe.

The CELTA course is an intensive training program that includes teaching practice with real language learners, classroom observation of experienced teachers, and several written assignments. The course is designed for candidates with no previous English teaching experience, but is also suitable for those who have some experience but no formal training in the TEFL field.

CELTA Course Goals
By the end of the CELTA course, trainees will:

• Acquire essential subject knowledge about the English language.
• Develop a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners.
• Know how to lead a communicative, student-centered class.
• Feel prepared to teach using a variety of materials and techniques.

CELTA Course Content

• At least 6 hours of observation of classes taught by experienced
  professionals
• Six hours of practice teaching with real language learners from the local
  community
• Trainers who guide you through every step of the way including observing
your peer teaching and practice teaching
• Instruction and practice in teaching the four basic language skills (reading,   writing, speaking, and listening) and subskills (vocabulary, pronunciation, and   grammar)
• An introduction to classroom management, including such issues as error   correction and giving instructions
• A strong foundation in language awareness and language analysis
• Instruction and practice in lesson planning
• An introduction to the roles of the teacher and the learner, as well as   planning and resources for different teaching contexts
• How to use multi-media such as songs and videos in the classroom

• Professional development guidance and assistance finding employment in the   field.

CELTA Course Requirements
In order to meet the training and certification requirements, candidates must:

  • Attend the entire course.
• Complete a minimum of six hours of practice teaching.
• Observe experienced TEFL teachers for at least six hours.
• Maintain and submit a portfolio of all written assignments and materials   related to practice teaching.

CELTA Course Assessment

There are no final tests in the CELTA program. Throughout the course, trainers assess candidates on two major components of their work:

• Teaching practice and lesson planning
• Written assignments

During the program, each trainee will teach a minimum of six hours of classes with real language learners. These classes are observed both by trainers and fellow trainees; the trainers’ evaluations constitute part of the final grade. Trainees will also complete four assessed written assignments, each normally being between 750 and 1000 words long.

Training Report and Evaluation

Upon completion of the TEFL program, BridgeTEFL will issue you a training report outlining what was covered during the training and your overall performance in the course. You may include this with your resume for future employment references.

Admission Requirements
All applicants to the CELTA course must:

• Be at least 18 years of age (20 is recommended).
• Have a standard of education equivalent of that required for entry into higher   education.
• Pass a pre-course language evaluation task and a 60-minute interview.
• Have an awareness of language and a competence in both written and   spoken English that will enable them to undertake the course and prepare for   teaching a range of levels.
