  Comments from TEFL Graduates

Jesse Myers

I am a licensed full-time special education teacher who teaches English as a Second Language "on the side" in the summers and on weekends. I really appreciate the flexibility of this program, both in accommodating my schedule and in allowing me to incorporate strategies from my special education and previous ESL experience.

Bridge BCELT™ (Bridge Certificate in English Language Teaching )

BCELT™
Internationally recognized online, interactive TEFL course, with live webinars or in-person instruction and discussion forums.
100-hour, 12-week online course

The BCELT™ (Bridge Certificate in English Language Teaching) is a rigorous 100-hour, 12-week online course—perfect for teachers who are unable to attend an on-site program and prefer a challenging, university-style approach.

The BCELT™ is our e-learning solution—designed for English teachers who need flexibility in their schedules or live in a location where the Bridge IDELT is not offered—that provides a 100-hour TEFL certification in English language teaching, with the additional benefit of graduate credit from the University of Northern Colorado. This online course is offered in partnership with UNC and has been approved by ACCET (Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training). Qualified participants may receive up to three graduate-level credit hours from the University of Northern Colorado, and all BCELT™ graduates will be issued an official certificate from BridgeTEFL headquarters upon completion of the course.

BCELT™ Course Goals
The BCELT™ is a reading- and discussion-based course on effective, current methodology for teaching English to adult speakers of other languages, with emphasis given to teaching in an EFL (English as a foreign language) context. While the emphasis is on methodology, other aspects of English language teaching, such as applicable theories in linguistics and education, are also addressed. In addition, students observe EFL teaching in action (on the text’s DVD and online) and reflect on these current best practice models. The BCELT™ is a highly interactive online course, featuring class discussion forums in a VLE (virtual learning environment), video-conferencing sessions and live webinars with our highly experienced TEFL trainers. The course follows a 12-week sequence, and TEFL trainees complete weekly reading, viewing and writing assignments and progress through the course as a class group. There are weekly forum-based writing, quizzes and online video conferencing, allowing for plentiful interaction with teachers and other TEFL trainees.

BCELT™ Course Goals
Throughout the course students will:

  Read and discuss in online forums thought-provoking material found in the text, its DVD, links to online resources, teacher’s contributions and other included materials;

  Analyze the concepts found in the reading and draw inferences in their writing regarding best practices in English teaching today;

  Assess learner needs in order to plan and teach lessons that take account of learners' backgrounds, learning preferences and current needs.

  Produce projects, papers, and plans which reflect the concepts described in class materials.

At the end of the course, participants are expected to produce plans and analysis which demonstrate understanding of the principles illustrated on effective, current methodology for teaching English to adult speakers of other languages.
